Your irrational purchases

Customers make irrational decisions just because of the way a brands connect with them. A specific sound, vacillate consumers mood. An upbeat top 40 song in a clothing store will make customers feel better while shopping and as they are happy and relax the sales will increase.

Practical aroma selection can increasescreen-shot-2014-11-02-at-9-30-18-pm traffic in a store, when you feel an aroma that you like you can be drawn into the store because you feel that particular smell appeals you or comforts you in a way (e.g. Williams-Sonoma). Simon Harrop conducted an experiment with a retailer store in London. The store wanted to increase their sausages sales so he spread a fake sausage aroma at the entrance and this made people who smell it enter the store and go to the sausage area, then he tested how taste could persuade sales and he proved when people tasted a product they were more willing to buy it.  This goes to the reciprocation principle, people feel obligated to give something back when they are offered something, and in this case they feel “persuaded to buy”.

    I was at pier 39 to watch the tree lightning and there was a really strong hot chocolate smell which made me wanted to buy the drink. And I did of course, only the taste wasn’t as great as the smell…

I was lonely one day wanted a pet, so my boyfriend at the time and I bought 2 pet mice that same day thinking they would live for only a few months….They lived for over a year, smelled awful, were nocturnal, and escaped from their cage FAR too many times. Loved those two little mice, but really should have thought that purchase out more clearly

    My truth is that I can not stop buying headphones….i buy one new headphone every week expecting to be better or work better…CAN…NOT…STOP!!!….

    My brother and I were in Macy’s this past weekend and there were Christmas displays everywhere! So naturally, we bought matching ugly Christmas sweaters to wear on Christmas morning… Now I’m wondering why we were both so excited to buy something that we’ll probably only wear once but it seemed like a good idea at the time!

    Every time I go out I spend way too much money on shots. After a few drinks I just want to get everyone on my level and end up getting rounds for strangers. I blame the music and party lighting.

  8. Too easy telling of the amounts of money spent in Tattoos, they are like a drug !!!
    BTW Once I bought 10 big packages of Orange TicTac !!! I love them…but I don’t know why 10 packs !!
